Accessibility Statement
Our work is helping people who have been hurt. A website that locks out people with disabilities would be a strange way to do that work. We built nroselaw.com to be usable for everyone.
What we are aiming for
We follow the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA published by the World Wide Web Consortium, the most widely used standard for web accessibility. Making the site work for everyone is the right way to run an injury law firm.
What we have done
The site was built from the ground up with accessibility in mind. Specifically:
- Semantic HTML. Headings, lists, landmarks, and form labels use real HTML elements, so screen readers and other assistive technology can interpret the page structure correctly.
- Color contrast. Text and interactive elements are designed to meet WCAG 2.1 AA contrast ratios (4.5:1 for body text, 3:1 for large text and interactive components), checked against the WebAIM Contrast Checker.
- Alt text. Every photo of Nicholas Rose, the office, infographics, and case-result graphics has descriptive alt text. Decorative images are marked as decorative so screen readers skip them.
- Keyboard navigation. You can use the entire site with the keyboard. Tab moves through links, forms, and menus; Enter activates them; focus indicators are visible. There are no keyboard traps.
- Skip-to-content link. Every page starts with a "Skip to main content" link so keyboard and screen reader users can bypass repeated navigation.
- Forms. Every input has a visible label. Errors are announced in plain text, not just by color. Required fields are marked clearly.
- Responsive design. The site reflows to 200% browser zoom without horizontal scrolling and without losing content.
- ARIA where needed, not where it isn't. We use ARIA labels and roles only when standard HTML cannot do the job. Overuse of ARIA is itself an accessibility problem.
- Page language. Each page declares its language in HTML so screen readers pronounce content correctly. The Spanish mirror at /es/ uses lang="es".
- Testing. We check every page template with axe-core and Lighthouse during development and re-check after significant changes.
What we are still working on
- Documents and media we add over time. If we publish downloadable documents or video, we will tag documents for screen-reader access and provide captions and transcripts for video. If you need an accessible version of anything on the site, email us and we will provide one.
- Third-party content. When we link to or embed content from third parties, some of that content was not created to our standards. Where we can add context or an alternative, we do.
- Continuous improvements. Browsers, screen readers, and the WCAG standard itself keep evolving. We re-audit the site periodically, and new features get an accessibility review before they ship.
Our approach
We build accessibility into the code of the site itself. We do not rely on third-party accessibility overlay widgets.
